Slaidburn

Set off down Maryhill road but did not stop at the Kelvin Dock pub, Calum is not coming this year.

Met Andy at Central Station and caugh the 09:40 to Oxenholme. This ran to time and it wasn't long before we were on the lanes of Lancashire and Yorkshire once again. Weather was breezy but sunny.

We stopped at a café in Kirkby Lonsdale then went on to Catlow Fell via High Bentham. The climb seemed harder this time although the conditions were ideal. We arrived at Slaidburn at 17:00, Bert, Sally, Heather and Andrew arrived shortly after and Trevor rolled in at 18:00

Arnside

We had a few sad goodbyes as Bertie was going home to Bristol with Andrew then we set off west.

Found a big hill over Whin Brow with lots of cyclists. We were going really well and stormed down to the seaside at Condor Green for a pub lunch, a giant chicken sandwich. We then rode up the coast to shop in Lancaster then made it to a tea shop at Leighton Moss at 16:30. It was then just 3m to the hostel at Arnside where the rain started just as we arrived. Great day out.

Hawes

There was a thunder storm at night with heavy rain and by the time we set off in the morning there were already floods. We headed through Yealand Redmayne and across to Kirkby Lonsdale in torrential rain. Stopped at the café for a couple of hours but the rain kept coming down. We eventually had to move on but the flooding up Barbondale was even worse where we rode against a torrent of water deep enough to come over our feet. We stopped ta a tea shop in Dent for an hour before venturing back out in to the deluge. Dentdale was not much better with the river bursting out on the the road in places. We eventually arrived at the hostel in Hawes at 18:20 to find all the shops closed so we have to go for a pub meal.

Kirkby Stephen

Had a long lie in and a late start. First stop was the Wensleydale Creamery. Had a good look around, watched the cheese making demonstration then bought some cheese. Next stop was the Green Dragon and Hardraw Falls. So with 2 miles behind us and lunch time past we set off up the Buttertubs. Weather stayed dry and bright, much different to yesterday. Once we were in Swaledale we headed up hill along a road which was closed. Eventually reached Kirkby Stephen at about 6.

Langdon Beck

Woke to a lovely sunny day with broken cloud. Sally and Heather set off first to get a head start. Unfortunately some road workers sent them the wrong way at Rookby heading towards Heggerscales. We phoned them and got them to come back down so we could go up the road to Tan Hill where we had a pub lunch. After lunch we went down the NCN route to Bowes which starts as a rough track. Here Sally and Heather took the 'pink route' straight to Cotherstone. Trevor, Andy and I went to Barnard castle for shopping then took the B6277 to the hostel at Langdon Beck.
