For 2002 we decided to have a holiday rather than an expedition. One of the key factors here was to go away at a time when the weather might be reasonably kind. The first week of June was chosen, there should be no chance of snow and it is before the main holiday season. Of course we had no choice but to choose a week when the English schools were on holiday, we all know why that is don't we Alan? A holiday means not working too hard at the cycling so short days were planned but we did not want it to be too easy so the route was to vaguely follow the line of the Pennines, the backbone of England. This should ensure that at least some of the time there would be a challenge. We didn't book the hostels in advance, as there were only four of us going we thought it should be easy enough to get in to hostels at that time of year.
